Size: 6-acres
Objective: Main residential structure on 6-acre lot. Accommodate 3 subfamilies of an extended family at one time for gatherings, holidays, etc. One subfamily year-round caretaker. Develop plans and imagery for potential project sale as development.
Challenges/Opportunities: The site presents formidable challenges as well and incredible view opportunities and experiences. Despite 6 acres of land, there is only one build-able site for the main structure. A cobble plateau allows for incredible 360 degree views but leaves the structure exposed to natural elements. An imposing neighboring structure must be negotiated.
Solution: Turn the broadside of the long, horizontal plan to the mountain view to the west. An “A Frame” upper level perched on a concrete base diverts heavy seasonal snow as needed as well as allows upper windows to be inset to address prominent Southwestern sun. Structure orientation utilizes 3D model with mountains in the distance to optimize view and screening from neighboring structure.
What is “different”: The lower level is a box of insulated concrete panels. The upper level program of interior/exterior spaces sheltered by a cadence of A-frame roof lines sit on this concrete box.
Deliverables: Photo-realistic animation with geo-referenced terrain and placement of important mountain landmark over 30 miles away, CAD-generated preliminary layouts.
