Size: 2+ acres. Single family home with RV garage
Objective: Design for a young growing family with separate casita as future “mother-in-law”.
Challenges/Opportunities: Lot backs up to mountain desert wilderness and existing wash. Adjacent lots with future houses will need to be considered for privacy.
Solution: “L” shaped layout maximizes the exposure of the main living areas to the mountain desert, the most beautiful and private lot opportunity. A covered rooftop patio takes advantage of the site height limit and draws people up to the unique view over the city. The main exterior seating area connects the main structure with the casita which doubles as a family room/guest room that can be converted into a more permanent living situation in the future.
What is “different”: A cadence of columns marches down the long leg of the “L” shaped layout delineating spaces (indoor and outdoor) while providing consistency as one moves through the house. Walls and glazing panels within the grid of columns separate spaces as needed. 3 vertical brick elements that double as necessary venting masses interrupt the pure, long, horizontals.
Deliverables: Photo-realistic flyover animation with geo-referenced terrain and placement of important surrounding natural and man-made landmarks. Construction documents generated in Revit with close collaboration of sub contractors to achieve construction cost and execution objectives.
