Size: 1+ acres. Single Family home with RV Garage.
Objective: Design a single family home with an large RV garage and enough additional space for nearby family to visit for short and long periods of time.
Challenges/Opportunities: The lot is multi-tiered and backs up to desert mountains on the outskirt of town. With the exception of the adjacent neighbor, there is one house 100 yards away that interrupts 270 degrees of view. Being perched high above the city mean sweeping vistas but also leaves the lot exposed to the desert elements and especially the wind.
Solution: The large RV garage mass is “sunken” taking advantage of the lower tier of the lot. A courtyard enclosed on 3 sides protects patio space and opens the building to the intimate desert landscape of the adjacent hills/mountains.
What is “different”: Building shell is designed completely with Omniblock, an insulated CMU product. With insulation achieved, the exterior and interior finish of the block become the house finishes eliminating the need for drywall and adding intrigue to every room. Different texture, color, and bond options allow for enough differentiation in the block while keeping a cohesive feeling.
Deliverables: Photo-realistic flyover animation with geo-referenced terrain and placement of important surrounding natural and man-made landmarks. Full construction documents from Revit from close collaboration with sub-contractors to reach objectives in project cost and execution.
