Size: 6 acres
Objective: Main residential structure on 6-acre lot. Accommodate 3 subfamilies of an extended family at one time for gatherings, holidays, etc. One subfamily year-round caretaker. Develop plans and imagery for potential project sale as development.
Challenges/Opportunities: The site presents formidable challenges as well and incredible view opportunities and experiences. Despite 6 acres of land, there is only one buildable site for the main structure. A cobble plateau allows for incredible 360 degree views but leaves the structure exposed to natural elements. An imposing neighboring structure must be negotiated.
Solution: A photo-realistic terrain model of a 30-mile radius around the subject property. Optimize site experience of traversing across the cobble plateau with views to the west to the ultimate destination of the Northern Valley view. Dictate traverse angle by structure orientation to screen neighboring impediment from view. Create a destination node at end of structure for dramatic sense of arrival.
What is “different”: Simple forms and clean detailing keep the structure inconspicuous from the exterior and help it sit down between the cobble mounds. Passive energy features include air exchange towers to promote flow from across South-North gradient. Structurally insulated panels and thick walls achieve high insulation properties and allow for deep set glazing. Lower level thick wall composition includes cobbles from the site for wall thickness and an aesthetic sense of belonging on the site at a budget price.
Deliverables: Photo-realistic animation of exterior/interior highlighting site views and experiences and how the structure relates. Renderings for project promotion and sales tools if needed. Plans, elevations, sections, and relevant details as needed for GC pricing of project.
